How to Automatically Backup WordPress to Dropbox?Using the BackWPup plugin

Only by registering for a Dropbox account, you canWordpressBackups are saved to Dropbox.

WordPress automatically backs up to DROPBOX

Step 1:Edit an existing BackWPup job, or create a new BackWPup job▼

  • BackWPup→Job or BackWPup→Add New Job.

Step 2:In the General tab, go to the Job Destination section and check the Backup to Dropbox box ▼

A new tab called To: Dropbox will appear where you can configure Dropbox's settings.

Configure Dropbox settings

  • If a connection to Dropbox has not been established, a red "Unauthenticated! (Not Aut)" highlighted at the top of the page will appear.
  • If you don't already have a Dropbox account, you can click the "Create Account" button to go to sign up.

Step 3:To authenticate, use one of the two buttons, Get Dropbox App Authentication Code or Get Full Dropbox Authentication Code.

  1. The first method can only create access to a certain folder (Apps),
  2. Whereas the second method will create access to the entire Dropbox account.We recommend that you use limited app access.

Clicking one of these buttons will take you to the Dropbox site, asking you to allow the site to access Dropbox.

Step 4:Click Allow ▼

To allow the site to access Dropbox, click "Allow".

Step 5:On the next page, a code ▼

Copy the code and paste it into the field next to the button you clicked before on the BackWPup job settings page.

  • Then click Save Changes at the bottom.
  • BackWPup should now show you that it has successfully connected to Dropbox. 

Set a name in the Destination Folder field

  • You can now change or set the name in the Destination Folder field where the backup files will be stored.
  • If you used app authentication, this folder will be under Apps/BackWPup.

BackWPup should now show you that it has successfully connected to Dropbox. 

  • You can set the maximum number of backups that will be stored in Dropbox in the File Deletion field.
  • This saves space in Dropbox.If the maximum number is reached, the oldest backup will be deleted.

To check that the Dropbox settings are working, start a backup job with Dropbox as the job target▼

To check if Dropbox settings are working correctly, start the backup job using Dropbox as the job target.

If the assignment is complete, you should see the backup file in Dropbox ▼
